This is exactly what Christ promised: eternal life, real life!
1 John 2:25 MSG
In his book, Restoration Year, John Eldredge makes the point that “eternal means unending, not later.”
How have we missed that? We assume, in part because it’s what we’ve always been taught, that eternal life is somewhere in the future that isn’t real to us. It’s in the afterlife.
“eternal“, an adjective
– having infinite duration
– continued without intermission, perpetual
– valid or existing at all times
Merriam-Webster online dictionary
Nowhere in the definition does it mention anything about the future. We’ve simply added that part. Maybe it’s time we start looking at what Jesus said, instead of what we’ve always been told. Just maybe some of the things we’ve been taught for years and assumed true, are rubbish.
Let’s start thinking, instead of assuming. The promises of God are for today.
